Çolakoğlu Metalurji Exceeds Its 2026 Decarbonization Target One Year Ahead of Schedule

Çolakoğlu Metalurji has published its 2025 Sustainability Report. The company reduced its Scope 1+2 emissions intensity by 17.8% in one year, achieving its 13% reduction target set for 2026 one year ahead of schedule and exceeding the target by 4.8 percentage points.

Having completed its 80th year, Çolakoğlu Metalurji has published its 2025 Sustainability Report, presenting the company’s sustainability performance for 2025. The report highlights the progress achieved in the areas of climate change mitigation, energy and resource efficiency, circular economy, operational excellence, employee development and corporate resilience.

With a production model based on Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) technology and scrap-based steelmaking, Çolakoğlu Metalurji contributes to bringing steel back into the economy and promoting the circular use of resources. In line with its “Bringing the Future of Steel to Life” sustainability strategy, the company continues its activities under four value areas: Responsible Production, Creating Value for People and Society, Sustainable Growth, and Corporate Resilience.

Decarbonization target exceeded one year ahead of schedule

As part of its efforts to combat climate change, Çolakoğlu Metalurji continues to regularly measure and monitor its emissions. In 2025, the company reduced its Scope 1+2 emissions intensity by 17.8% compared to 2024. Emissions intensity decreased to 0.309 tCO₂e per ton of liquid steel, enabling the company to achieve its 13% reduction target set for 2026 one year ahead of schedule and exceed it by 4.8 percentage points.

For the first time in 2025, Çolakoğlu Metalurji’s climate-related activities were assessed under the CDP Climate Change Questionnaire, through which the company achieved a B score. During the same period, climate-related risks and opportunities were analyzed in detail for the first time, and a risk and opportunity map was developed, taking into account a climate scenario below 2°C.

Tangible progress in energy and resource efficiency

In 2025, improving operational processes and using resources more efficiently became one of Çolakoğlu Metalurji’s key areas of focus. Accordingly, energy intensity per ton of liquid steel in final production was reduced by 2.24%, while water intensity per ton of liquid steel production decreased by 11.01%.

Significant progress was also achieved in waste management. In 2025, 411,224 tons of waste were recovered, representing a 24.79% increase compared to the previous year.

As part of its renewable energy investments, the Çubuk Rolling Mill Rooftop Solar Power Plant, with an installed capacity of 2.1 MWp, was commissioned in July 2025.

Circularity at the core of the production model

Çolakoğlu Metalurji’s scrap-based production model, powered by EAF technology, continues to be one of the key elements of its circular economy approach. In 2025, the recycled content rate reached 79.26% for flat products and 95.19% for long products.

The Magnetic Stirrer Project, one of the initiatives aimed at improving operational efficiency, was also implemented in 2025. The project contributed to improving efficiency in production processes and optimizing energy use.

Preparations for the CBAM process strengthened

For Çolakoğlu Metalurji, 2025 was also a period of intensified preparations for the European Union Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).
While regular emissions calculations were carried out, quarterly emissions data began to be shared with customers. Suppliers were evaluated according to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) criteria, while studies were conducted to monitor emissions throughout the supply chain.

Awareness of CBAM requirements was supported through training and information sessions for stakeholders, while the monitoring and sharing of emissions data with customers and suppliers continued.
